Athletics Update – August 2, 2023

Posted August 2, 2023

Hope the summer is going well.

We have 8 days until the official start of Fall Sports, August 7th. I will work on pulling permits for the Fall Season today.

  • Boys’ soccer continues to grow as we are up to 20 young men practicing 3 days a week in preparation for the year. Coach Carlos is very optimistic about the upcoming season which will be led by returning senior, 3 time letter winner, Luis Roman and newcomer Diego Niera.
  • Volleyball is poised to field 3 teams this Fall (C, JV & Varsity). Coach Hampton & Coach B have put in countless hours this Summer teaching a new system. We also hope to add long-time great & Grizzly Alum Veronica Blanco to the staff this Fall.
  • Orale’s Army has been working diligently this summer getting the building ready for the start of the school year. Due to several programs using the facilities this summer, thus pushing her schedule back some days, Orale is projecting that her crew will get to the gym the week of August 7-11. So the gym will be off limits that week. Dive Volleyball will rent us two courts for that week to provide a place for our teams to prepare for their first scrimmage August 12th.
  • I have reached out to the Grounds department for support with our synthetic turf field (leveling, grooming, & general maintenance), they have contracted this job to an outside company and have assured me Bruce is part of the plan. Until then we will have our coaches & players assisting with general clean up on a daily basis. I also have four organizations coming in to help support with cleanup and baseball field maintenance.
  • Communications have been sent out via Team Reach to our returning athletes about 9th Grade Academy, Junior and Senior check ins.
