This week we have some soccer, flag football, and volleyball games going on. Check out the schedule and make sure to come cheer on your Grizzlies! ⚽ Please continue reading below for additional sports updates:
This week Grizzly Athletics will return to the court and field as they continue the journey.
High School Volleyball is still on the road with game 3 of 6 games away from the Den. This Wednesday, the Grizzlies will travel to Jefferson High School to take on the Saints. Despite two losses Coach Chan & Coach Youngren are seeing great improvement, with stellar play from several young Grizzlies.
High School Boys’ Soccer will host Jefferson on Saturday, with varsity at 10 a.m. and JV to follow at noon. The Grizzlies are coming off a hard-fought win over 5A Thornton HS 2-1 and look to take on a state-qualifying Jefferson Saints squad. The Grizzlies are starting 4 freshmen and 3 sophomores, and despite taking some lumps, the Grizzlies are very competitive. They hope the strategy of playing youth pays off as they compete in the City League (DPS).
High School Girls’ Flag Football will use the week in preparation for a doubleheader at the #1 ranked Denver West Cowboys at 9 am and then take on the Patriots from GW.
Middle School Baseball will officially start practice this week with Tuesday and Wednesday workouts. I will step in to coach this and will reach out to a possible assistant to help.
Middle School Cross Country will also start practice this week with sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. I will step in to coach but will check in with Veronica, Peterson & Garrido to see how we can provide this for our Grizzly Cubs.
MiddleSchool Girls’ Soccer will continue workouts this week on Tuesday & Wednesday practices. Miguel will step in to coach until we can get Cyintia going.
Alumni Report: Luis Roman is currently redshirting at Lamar CC as he adjusts to the grind of college soccer and what it takes to be successful in the classroom. Jacqueline Oropeza has rocketed into the starting line for Lamar CC. The coach is excited about her play up to this point as a true freshman. Pedro Carrillo has reported to Colby CC and stated “There’s nothing to do here but Baseball, class and lift weights.”, sounds like a recipe for success to me. Randy and I are hoping to find time this month to catch Jacqui in action up in Western Wyoming and Pedro will play in the Metro State Showcase on October 4th so we will be able to check in with two of our former Grizzlies.
Grizzly Roar goes out to Randy as he spent his Labor Day picking up a portable scoreboard from Riverdale Ridge HS which now can be used for all our outdoor sports (until the bond passes – cross your fingers). His actions remind me of a book I read this summer Leaders Eat Last by Simon Sinek, as he always puts the program, assistants, and players first.
Anther Grizzy Roar goes out to Miguel Gonzalez to get tickets for the CU vs ND State Football game. *The Flag Football team had a blast and a little team bonding too!
