Bruce families,

As we approach the 24-25 school year, we are excited to welcome your students back to Bruce and to have an amazing school year together.  We want you to mark your calendar for Back to School Night on September 12th from 5-7pm.  We will have dinner, community partners, opportunities to meet your student’s teachers, and opportunities to tour the building.

We are also thrilled that we broke ground on a greenhouse.  This project has been in the works for 2 ½ years and we are excited for its completion by November.  This will allow us to expand opportunities for our students to be a part of growing their own food and food for the community.

With a new year growing close, we wanted to give you a few updates to support with a strong start to the school year:

Technology

After much discussion with our Collaborate School Committee and our School Leadership Team, Bruce will be moving to being a technology school free school, with the exception of school-issued Chromebooks. We implemented a version of this policy at the middle school level 2nd semester of last year and saw a significant decrease in bullying, social media drama, fights, and lost classroom time.  If you would like to see some of the research around mental health, sleep, academics, exercise, and time with friends in relation to cell phones, you can find it here.

We will assign all students lockers and ask students to put their phones and headphones in their lockers to start each day.  Personal technology should remain in the locker for the entirety of the day, unless a student is leaving for off-campus lunch or to another campus for classes.  Students who need to contact their home will be able to do so in the main office.  Families who need to contact their student can call the main office and we will either pass along a message or have the student come to the office to call you back.  Our goal is to create a distraction free learning environment to allow for maximum learning.

We are also adjusting our technology policy. Students are expected to bring their school-issued chromebook and charger to school each day.  Failure to do so may result in discipline consequences and/or students having to turn their chromebook in before leaving school each day.

Specifics of these policies can be viewed in the student handbook which is available here.

Student drop-off/pick-up and parking

Please make sure you are only dropping off and picking up your students on the east side of the building.  The west parking area is only for DPS transportation, Connectors and Hop, Skip, Drive cars.  In addition, if you are arriving for an after-school event, please park in either the south or east parking lots until 4:30pm.  After 4:30 pm, the West lot will be available for sports use.

Registration

If you have not yet completed registration, school of choice and parent portal are available.  If you need additional assistance, the office is open 7-2:30pm daily or you can call Pamela Cisneros at 720-424-1081.

Technology/Schedule Pick-up

Students will be able to pick up their schedule and technology prior to the school year starting.  High school students can pick up their technology and schedules on Tuesday, 8/13 from 1-3pm.  All other students can do tech pick-up on.
