Upcoming Dates:
Attendance
We are excited to celebrate the attendance of our 6th and 11th grades who are meeting the goal of 90% attendance. Last week, we celebrated over 300 students who currently had 90% or better at the end of the first quarter.
We have seen a drop in attendance overall over the last several weeks. We need your help in supporting your student in attending each day. We know that students who attend more than 90% of the time are more likely to stay on track for graduation.
In addition, we are really struggling with on-time attendance for1st period. On Monday of this week, over 18% of students at Bruce were tardy to their 1st period class. Having large numbers of students late impacts both the teachers who are not getting the full benefit of their first period class and the teacher who continually has to support students to get caught up as they come in late. Can you support us by committing to getting your student to Bruce by 8:15 so that they can be in their classes on-time. This will support your student by making sure they are off to a great start to their day while also ensuring that their classmates can maximize their experience.
Schoolworks Visit
We had a group in the school last week observing classes, interviewing students and teachers, and looking at how we can improve as a school. We have some additional training we need to do to support our instructors in providing the best educational experience for students. With that in mind, we are going to have an early release day on Wednesday, December 4th. Students will be released at 11:45 in order to allow for teacher professional development that afternoon. All transportation will run early that day.
Thanksgiving Lunch
On November 21, we are hosting our Thanksgiving lunch for families and students! Reach out to the attendance line at 720-424-1087 by 11/05 if you want to attend.
Semester End Date
Reminder, the end of the semester is 12/20 – please do not make travel plans until after the end of the semester. School will restart for students on January 7, 2025.
Schedule
We are looking at options for our schedule for next year. We cannot adjust our start or end times. Things we are looking at adjusting are related to advisory, culture days, and lunch times within the day. Please fill out this survey to give input on potential changes. This will also be a part of our discussion at our November 21st CSC meeting.
We have a number of exciting athletic updates:
Flag Football and Coach Randy Walker finished their inaugural season with a 3.2 team GPA. Several Grizzlies receive honors:
Genna Dickerson was named to 2nd team All City League, and Alejandra Covarubias & Devojane Harper were named to the Honorable Mention squad.
Grizzy Soccer
Our soccer team won the City League Boys 2A/3A title with an incredible 3-2 win over Denver West in the championship game. They have an 8-4-3 record and have qualified as the #15 seed for the 2A State tournament. They will play at Force Christian Academy on Friday evening at 6pm. We’d love to see you there cheering on our amazing Grizzlies.
Grizzly Volleyball
Our Grizzly Volleyball team improved throughout the season and finished on a strong note. After a thrilling semifinal win over Manual, the Grizzlies fell to DMLK in the Bronze league final. They’ll begin off-season work soon and MS volleyball will get started in a few weeks.
MS Flag Football – MS flag football is off to a strong start as they opened their season with a win and followed up with a tie. We have 24 Grizzlies out working with Coach Garrido and Coach Valencia to get better each week
Athletics
High School Boys and Girls basketball will start practice in a few short weeks. Both teams will be heading to Las Vegas at the end of the semester to face strong competition from throughout the country. Students interested in playing boys basketball should connect with Coach Huff in the Future Center and girls interested in playing should connect with Coach Jones. Mr. Botello can assist any families who need support in getting a physical through our school-based clinic and completing Family ID. These two steps must be completed for a student to play a winter sport.
Questbridge National College Match Finalist
This year, we have 1 Questbridge National College Match Finalist current senior, Xaap Gallardo-Cruz! In 2024, out of over 25,500 applications, 7,288 students were selected as National College Match Finalists. He ranked 15 colleges & is now working on supplemental item requirements for each college all due by November 1. On December 2, we will know if he officially “MATCHED” with one of his 15 ranked colleges for a FULL RIDE Scholarship!
He’s been working really hard on the supplemental items which include short essay responses along with an Architecture portfolio (every college is different).
In addition to this, Class of 2025 has reported $146,000 in scholarship offers so far! Their goal is $2 million!
Great work, Xaap! We’re proud of you!
